About Flat Roof Report
Independent commercial roofing education for the person who signs the check.
Our Mission
Flat Roof Report exists to give building owners and facility managers the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their commercial roofing systems. We believe that understanding your roof — how it works, what it costs, when to act, and what questions to ask — is the single most effective way to protect your building investment.
Every article, tool, and guide on this site is written from the building owner's perspective. We explain roofing systems the way an independent consultant would: based on building requirements, performance data, and real-world experience — not manufacturer marketing.
Partnership Disclosure
Flat Roof Report is built in partnership with Southern Roofing Systems, a commercial roofing contractor serving Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida panhandle. Southern Roofing Systems provides the field expertise, project photography, and real-world cost data that makes this content accurate and actionable.
When you submit a roof survey request through this site, it is routed to Southern Roofing Systems. They are the service provider behind the contact forms on Flat Roof Report.
Full transparency: Southern Roofing Systems is a commercial partner, not an advertiser. They do not pay for placement, approve content before publication, or influence system recommendations.
System Neutrality
Flat Roof Report is independent of any roofing manufacturer. We are not affiliated with GAF, Carlisle, Firestone, Johns Manville, Sika, Versico, or any other membrane producer. We receive no compensation, incentives, or samples from manufacturers.
When we say TPO is a strong choice for a warehouse and PVC is better for a restaurant, that recommendation is based on the chemistry and performance of those systems — not on a business relationship. Every system we cover has strengths and limitations, and we present both.
Editorial Philosophy
- Accuracy over volume. We publish fewer articles, researched more thoroughly. If we are unsure about a claim, we say so.
- Owner-first perspective. Our audience is the person managing the building and the budget — not the roofer, not the manufacturer.
- Honest cost data. We publish installed cost ranges based on real Gulf Coast project data, updated regularly. We never use cost figures that are artificially low or inflated.
- No scare tactics. A roof is a business decision, not an emergency. We help you assess urgency honestly.
- Plain language. Commercial roofing has enough jargon. We define every technical term and link to our glossary throughout the site.
